Background: GCS （glucosylceramide synthase ） may serve as a 'flippase' as well as a glucosyltransferase that transfers glucose to ceramide. Able to use UDP-galactose to synthesize galactosylceramide with 10% of efficiency with which it utilizes UDP-glucose.
